COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

"IN CHRIST WE, THOUGH MANY, FORM ONE BODY"
- ROMANS 12:5

In the early days of Asian Children’s Mission, Joana was frequently asked to help found or fund more orphanages. This was not a sustainable strategy for a small non-profit, so Joana began to research alternatives. She soon realized that healthy families who live in thriving communities can feed, protect and educate their own children, so a move towards Community Development began.

SAMARITAN SCHOOL OF NURSING

The ACM Samaritan Practical School of Nursing was established to address the healthcare needs of rural Myanmar villages, where access to formal healthcare is limited. Led by a credentialed Registered Nurse, the school provides students with practical nursing skills, including assessment, first aid, wound care, and hygiene. Villages often select their own youth to attend the school, aiming for them to return as trained professionals to serve their communities. With the support of US healthcare providers, students receive additional training and education. Thanks to our supporters, these young people have the opportunity to make a real difference.

MYANMAR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CENTER

The Myanmar Community Development Center (MCDC) is located just east of Hope Children’s Home. We are very interested in engaging the surrounding village to offer hope and an understanding of the true gospel message. At the center we have our Samaritan Nursing Program, evangelist training, health clinic, and our new farm project!

COMMUNITY HEALTH EVANGELISM

Community Health Evangelism (CHE) is a Christ-centered educational program used by churches and communities around the world, including in Myanmar. CHE equips communities to identify issues and mobilize resources to achieve positive, sustainable change. Lives and communities are transformed as people come to Christ and work together to address local needs.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING

Vocational training at ACM covers a wide range of skills, recognizing the importance of practical education for students who may not pursue university. Our programs include computer classes, sign making classes, engine repair, sewing and chicken farming. We prioritize English Classes, seeing fluency as vital for urban job opportunities. We encourage internships as students finish training classes, these internships can be in construction, painting and restaurants. We welcome ideas and partnerships for teaching in Myanmar!
